Huskies Prove Too Much for Thunder

Huskies Prove Too Much for Thunder

EDMONTON, AB (February 22, 2022) – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder team welcomed the Keyano Huskies on Friday night to start their weekend matchups. The Huskies took control early, withstanding numerous rallies from the Thunder, to take the match 3-1.

The first set showed a strong performance from the Keyano Huskies as they took an early lead over the Thunder. Keeping their lead, the Huskies took the first set 25-13. Finding their own rhythm, the Thunder came out strong in the second set. After a nail biter of a set, the Thunder snuck away with the second set 25-23. Keeping their momentum, the Thunder worked hard to take the lead in the third set. Both teams worked hard to keep things tight before the Huskies took control and won the set 25-19. The fourth set both teams worked hard to keep the lead but the Huskies were able to find their momentum and ultimately take the set, 25-16, and match 3-1.

Head coach Ken McLaughlin spoke after the game about his team's performance: "Our group took it to a whole new level tonight. We have been working relentlessly on our block/defense this past week and we had moments of brilliance. I'm proud of my group and eager to see them battle Northwestern Polytechnic tomorrow and shoot for a result."

The One Team Sports players of the game were #4 Chance Wilkins for the Keyano Huskies and #2 Nathan Lane for Concordia Thunder.

The Thunder continue their weekend by traveling to Grande Prairie tomorrow evening. They welcome the Lakeland Rustlers to a home game Friday, Saturday 26, 2022.
