Rustlers Defeat Thunder in a Nail Biting Battle

Rustlers Defeat Thunder in a Nail Biting Battle

EDMONTON, AB (February 4th, 2023) - Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder hosted the Lakeland Rustlers for their second battle this weekend. The game was fast-paced and filled with intensity. Each set went back and forth keeping the scoreboard tight, but Rustlers walk away with the win, 3-1.

Thunder came to tonight's rematch against the Rustlers hungry to change the narrative. Their intensity showed through some powerful kills and beautiful service aces. CUE took the first set 25-20. In the second set, Thunder looked to keep things rolling in the same direction with an early lead, but the tides changed quickly, and the Rustlers get six straight for a three-point lead of their own. The rest of the set went back and forth, and the Rustlers tie things up with a set score of 25-22. With the game tied at 1-1, the Rustlers pushed hard to get back on top. They gain a nine-point lead and took the third set 25-16. The fourth set was full of action and stayed even all the way through, with neither team gaining a lead higher than four. With some key plays in the end the Rustlers will take the fourth set 25-23 and win the game 3-1.

The One Team Sport players of the game were #1 Lane Blight from the Rustlers, with 17 assists in the game. From the Thunder, #5 Wyatt Turnbull with 13 kills. Next weekend, we will be celebrating our graduating all-stars, #2 Nathan Lane, #11 Carson Hillburn, and #5 Wyatt Turnbull. This marks the final home game of the regular season against the SAIT Trojans, here at the Ralph King at 8 PM.
