EDMONTON, AB – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder hosted the Lakeland Rustlers in game one of their home and home weekend series to kick off the second half of the season. The back and forth contest went the distance, with the Rustlers taking the match in five sets.
The Thunder came out of the gate firing, taking an early lead in the first set and not looking back as they won 25-22. The second set was a close back and forth affair with the Rustlers coming out on top 26-24. Lakeland carried this momentum into the third set, controlling it from start to finish and winning by a score of 25-15. The fourth set was once again back and forth, but the Thunder came roaring back in the match, taking the set 27-25. The fifth and final set once again saw momentum swings and back and forth play, but the Rustlers managed to jump out to an early lead and hang onto it, winning the set 15-10 and the match 3-2.
Concordia and Lakeland meet again tomorrow as the Rustlers host game two of the weekend series. The Thunder will be looking for a weekend split after Friday night's tough loss.
The Kahunaverse Players of the Game were #6 Tyler Williamson for Lakeland and #11 Carson Hilburn for Concordia!
