Eagles defeat Thunder in dramatic fashion

Eagles defeat Thunder in dramatic fashion

EDMONTON AB – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder hosted the visiting Kings University Eagles for the first game in their weekend series. The Eagles defeated the host team in a 5 set match, in a very dramatic fashion.

The Thunder and the Eagles were very evenly matched in the first set, trading points back and forth until the 23rd point, when the Thunder pulled away and held the Eagles at 23. The Thunder owed their success to some great serving and some powerful kills. The Thunder came out strong in the second set taking an early lead and continued to intimidate by their strong serves and great blocks. The intensity continued into the 3rd set and the lead exchanged a number of times, but the Eagles were able to keep the game going with a 25-23 set win. The forth set was one to remember for the Eagles and the Thunder, this set was a fight to 30 as the Eagles edged the Thunder 30-28. This set had it all, great rallies, intense points, insane kills, and a big finish. The fifth set was very similar, lead was exchanged, the Thunder were up by as many as 5 then the Eagles fought back and beat the Thunder 18-16.

The Thunder and the Eagles will face off again tomorrow night to finish off their weekend series. The win tonight gave the Eagles a 4 point lead in the standings. The Thunder will be looking to even the score tomorrow. The Big Kahuna Player of the Game for the visiting Eagles was #24 Chance Wilkins and for the Thunder #3 Ryan Teliske.
