Thunderous Triumph: Concordia Men's Basketball Strikes Down Medicine Hat

Thunderous Triumph: Concordia Men's Basketball Strikes Down Medicine Hat

(EDMONTON, AB) In a thrilling showdown at Ralph King Athletic Centre, the Concordia Thunder men's basketball team showcased their dominance, securing the victory over the Medicine Hat College Rattlers. The game was an incredible display of offensive skill by both teams, with the Thunder coming out on top 109-101.

Concordia's offensive prowess was on full display, with players like O'Ryan Wallace and Kyler Dutka leading the charge with their scoring abilities. Wallace's 4-6 shooting from beyond the arc led to a career high 30 points and Dutka's presence in the paint led to 24 points on the night, creating significant challenges for the opposition's defense.

Medicine Hat College put up a valiant effort, with Jordan Biggar leading their offensive charge with an impressive 30-point performance. However, Concordia's defensive pressure, led by players like Yaadvir Dhaliwal and his team high 5 steals, proved too much for Medicine Hat to overcome.

After a 32-32 tie at the end of the first quarter, the Thunder would never give the lead back, outscoring the Rattlers in the second and third quarters. The fourth quarter saw Medicine Hat look to make a comeback, but the Thunder defence held on when it needed to most.

Head Coach Reagan Wood commented after the game, saying it was "a win we needed to have, and we found a way to get it despite the NBA All-Star game levels of defence we played. Need to be better at that end of the floor as we move on to our next challenge. Med Hat played a great game and shot the ball very well, so full mark to them on pushing us to the very end. We had really nice games from O'Ryan Wallace with a career high 30 and 24 again from Kyler Dutka, which was great to see. Big match up with a very good Briercrest team tomorrow!"

The Concordia Thunder Men's Basketball team looks ahead to their next home matchup tomorrow against Briercrest College at 3:00pm. With this victory tonight, the Thunder have now won two in a row and maintain a 9-8 record for the season, currently holding third place in the ACAC North Division.
