Thunder Men’s Basketball Dominate U of Augustana on Seniors Night

(EDMONTON, AB) The Concordia Thunder Men's Basketball team got back to their winning ways in a commanding 97-82 victory over the visiting University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings. From the opening tip-off to the final buzzer, the Thunder dominated throughout, securing a well-deserved win on Seniors Night.

In a balanced offensive performance, Concordia's Kyler Dutka led the charge with 24 points, to go along with his 6 rebounds and 2 blocks on the night. O'Ryan Wallace, continued to show up on the stat sheet, scoring 20 points while shooting 4-7 from three. Graduating senior, Alex MacLean got things done on both sides of the ball, contributing 15 points while collecting a team high 8 rebounds and 4 blocks.

The first quarter set the tone for Concordia as they took a 26-14 lead. The team's efficient shooting and solid defensive efforts allowed them to maintain their advantage throughout the game. Despite a push back from the Vikings in the second quarter, the Thunder responded with a 23-point surge in the third quarter, putting them ahead 76-56 and making it an easy fourth quarter to seal the victory.

After some reflection of the game and his graduating players, Thunder Head Coach Reagan Wood said "I'm happy we were able to bounce back for seniors night after a tough 1 points loss last night. Our veterans stepped up and played a solid game leading us to the win. To Alex, Nick, Milt, Kaleb, and Noah all who all got out there and contributed along with Jax who is recovering from knee surgery, love you guys. Thank you for everything you have given to me and the team over so many years. I'm gonna miss you! Glad we could make this night a special one with the win!"

The Concordia Thunder Men's Basketball team looks forward to their next home matchup Friday February 9th against Medicine Hat College. With this victory, Concordia maintains an 8-8-record for the season, which puts them in third place in the ACAC North Division.
