Thunder Lose Heartbreaker to King’s Eagles
EDMONTON, AB (February 20, 2022) – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder welcomed The King's University Eagle's Sunday Evening. After a night of intense back-and-forth play, the King's Eagles found their momentum in the last minute of play and took the game 62-59.
The first quarter started with both teams playing a tight first half with back to back points between the two teams. With less than a minute left, the Eagles scored a three pointer to tie the game and end the quarter 9-9. The second quarter saw the same fight and battle between the teams as they continued to exchange points. With a buzzer beater, Thunder #3 Brooke Froment brought the half to 27-23. The Eagles came out strong at the beginning of the third quarter, taking an early lead. Outscoring the Thunder 23-17, the Eagles took the third quarter 46-44. The fourth quarter showed a tight battle between the two as the lead went back and forth between them. Ultimately, the Eagles were able to take points in the final minute and take the game 62-59.
After the game, Thunder head coach Robbie Valpreda commented, "The Eagles came out strong and simply beat us. They played a great game."
The One Team Sports Players of the game were #5 Ella Majeau for the the King's Eagles and #11 Rachel Harvey for the Concordia Thunder.
