EDMONTON, AB - The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder met the King's Eagles Friday afternoon with three crucial points on the line. The Eagles grabbed a lead in the first third of the match and never looked back as they defeated the Thunder 2-0.
The game started off as an even affair with both teams exchanging chances. The Eagles were able to take advantage of one of those chances and opened the scoring in the 19' as Antonio Krajancic headed home a pass from #15 Noah Bilodeau. The two teams finished the first half once again exchanging scoring chances, but the Thunder couldn't find an equalizer as the 1-0 scoreline held on as the halftime score. The even play once again dominated the second half as both teams played a tight game to keep things level. At the midway point of the second half, third year Thunder goalkeeper Scott Hornbeck reached 74 saves in his CUE career as he set a new mark for the most career saves made in men's soccer program history. The celebration didn't last long, however as #6 Lucas Alves scored in the 88' minute to increase the Eagles lead to 2-0. The Thunder pressed to find a late marker, but came up short as the Eagles hang on to win the match 2-0.
The Big Time Sports Players of the Game were #17 Dorian Jacobs for the King's Eagles and #5 Dante Garritano for the Thunder.
The Thunder continue their schedule as they host the Portage College Voyageurs in Saturday afternoon action tomorrow.
