EDMONTON, AB – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder continued their regular season schedule with their home opener on Saturday against the Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) Wolves. The Thunder opened the scoring in the first ten minutes and never looked back as they grabbed a 3-1 win.
The Thunder came firing out of the gate as #20 Daniel Mujija scored in the 6' to give the Thunder the early lead. The Wolves came back to tie it in the first half as #7 Dylan Stewart scored in the 23' to pull the two teams even. CUE took the lead back five minutes later, however, as #11 Nick Lampron scored in the 28' from #20 Daniel Mujija to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead. That score line held for the rest of the half as the Thunder were able to shut down the Wolves attack heading into half time. The second half opened up the same way the first ended, as the Thunder were able to control the pace and shut down the Wolves attack. The Thunder ended up adding to their lead as #11 Nick Lampron scored his second of the game in the 78' to make it 3-1, which held on to be the final score.
"It was a hard fought match, but I'm glad we got the three points" third year Thunder midfielder Jayden Munguia commented after the match. Head Coach Hussein Shabdi added "we played very well, we could've scored more, but we're getting better every game."
The One Team Sports Players of the Game were #7 Dylan Stewart for the GPRC Wolves and #11 Nick Lampron for the Thunder.
The Thunder are in action again tomorrow afternoon as they visit the NAIT Ooks.
