Thunder Come Up Short in Exhibition Action
EDMONTON, AB – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder men continued their exhibition schedule on Saturday afternoon as they welcomed the visiting King's University Eagles. In a closely fought back and forth match, one goal was the difference as the Eagles took this one 1-0.
The action started right out of the gate as both teams pushed the ball, creating end to end action. CUE keeper Scott Hornbeck and Eagles' keeper Tosh Hartley made multiple acrobatic saves to keep things level through the first part of the game. A foul in the box in the 38th minute led to a penalty for the Eagles where #6 Lucas Alves gave King's a 1-0 lead. The second half was much of the same as the first half, with exciting back and forth action and acrobatic saves from Hornbeck and Hartley. Although both teams had their chances to strike in the second half, the 1-0 score line held to be the final score.
After the game, Thunder head coach Hussein Shabdi commented: "we didn't play as good as we could have or wanted to, but the second half was a better effort." Thunder forward Nicolas Lampron added: "It was a hard fought, back and forth match and the result was unfortunate for us."
The Thunder continue their exhibition schedule as they head to The King's University for a rematch next Saturday with the Eagles. The next home game for the Thunder is their regular season home opener on Friday, September 24th as they welcome the GPRC Wolves.
