Thunder Lose Heartbreaker To Wolves In Saturday Afternoon Action

EDMONTON, AB (November 20, 2021) – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder and the Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) Wolves wrapped up their weekend series meeting Saturday afternoon. A match Concordia controlled early, GPRC stormed back for an intense finish with the Wolves taking it in five sets 3-2.

The Thunder opened the match by picking up where they got finished last night, taking an early lead in the first set. The Wolves tried to come back, but the Thunder proved to be too much as CUE took the first set 25-18. The second set again saw the Thunder jump out to an early lead. The Wolves pushed back and made things interesting late, but CUE was able to hang out and get out of the second set with a 25-21 win. The momentum was shifting however, as the third set was a different story from the first two. A close set early with both teams exchanging points, GPRC was able to take a lead and run with it. Never looking back as they went on to win the third set 25-19. The Wolves rode this momentum into the fourth set, holding the Thunder at bay and forcing a fifth set 25-18. The story of the fifth set was the same as the as the game, with both teams taking leads and the other team storming back. The Wolves took an early lead in the fifth set, before the Thunder stormed back and took a lead of their own late. GPRC then tied things up, and things got interesting down the stretch. Neither team was able to get to the two point lead to finish the match, until the Wolves were finally able to do it, taking the fifth set 19-17 and the match 3-2.

The One Team Sports Players of the game were #13 Alexandra Pullishy for the Wolves and #13 Kara McIntyre for the Thunder.

The Thunder return to action next Friday when they welcome the NAIT Ooks to Concordia.
