Thunder Return to Action in Exhibition Win Over NAIT

EDMONTON, AB – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder returned to women's volleyball action for the first time since the 2019-20 season as they opened their exhibition schedule Friday night against the NAIT Ooks. After splitting the first two sets, the Thunder took control to with the match 3-1.

The game started off with some tight back and forth action in the first set, with the Thunder coming through to take the first set 25-22. The second set was also a hard-fought affair with both teams exchanging leads. The Ooks took the lead late and never looked back as they took the second set 25-20 to tie the game up. The Thunder came roaring back in the third set 25-20 to regain the lead in the match. The fourth set was the longest of the match as both teams exchanged leads as the Thunder looked to closed things out and the Ooks tried to extend their night. This created a tightly contested set, but the Thunder were able to close things out late and take the set 25-23 to win the match 3-1.

After the game, Thunder head coach Erinn Jacula commented on the game "our experienced players led with confidence tonight. As a result, the team stayed patient through the first game nerves and were able to pull off the win." Third year Thunder libero Renae Regal also liked what she saw from her team tonight: "after coming off a two year volleyball drought, we came in with some new girls and definitely a new attitude and we were able to secure the win, and I can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings."

The Thunder continue their exhibition schedule next Friday as they welcome The King's University Eagles.
