Weekend Recap - Week 22

It was the last week of the athletic season for the Thunder as Indoor Track was the final team to finish the year. The group headed over to the Universiade Pavilion for ACAC Indoor Track Championships in Edmonton looking to bring back individual medals and team championships.

The Thunder men’s team was led by Domenic Marchese, who captured a silver in the 300m with a time of 36.44s and a bronze in the 60m dash with a time of 7.15s. The men’s 4x400 relay team also medaled at the championship, as Marchese along with Josh Gillard, Dante Garritano, and Markus Boland ran a combined 3:38.25.

On the women’s side it was Ashlee Walker who stole the show, winning gold medals in the 1000m clocking in at 2:58.47 and in the 1500m with the only time under five minutes at 4:59.99. The women’s relay team also won two gold medals as Walker, Jaycee May, Ava Rudyk, and Laurel van der Giessen came in first in the 4 x 400 relay running a 4:08.48 and set a new ACAC record in the 4 x 200 relay with a time of 1:50.25.

After the competition was complete Marchese and Walker both finished as members of the ACAC Indoor Track All-Conference team. Walker also collected the most points in the championship of any rookie or female runner, making her the 2025 ACAC Women’s Indoor Track Rookie and Runner of the Year.

With all ACAC sports now coming to a close, CUE athletes now have time to focus on exams and getting ready for the annual Thunder Athletics Banquet held at the beginning of April.
