Thunder take down Vikings in 2OT

Thunder take down Vikings in 2OT

EDMONTON AB – In tonight's game the Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder played host to the visiting Augustana Vikings. The game needed two OT periods until the Thunder put it away with just over 2 minutes left in 2OT.

The Vikings opened up the scoring in the first, but the Thunder answered back with a beautiful power play goal to tie everything up at one. The first was back and forth and both teams had some great opportunities to make this a much higher game, if it wasn't for some stellar goaltending at both ends.

The second period was filled with drama, goals, big hits and excitement, as both teams started playing a more physical game, providing both teams some powerplay opportunities and some great momentum shifts.

The Thunder it up early in the 3rd shortly after the Vikings killed off a very crucial penalty. The game would remain tied for the remainder of the 3rd and would push this contest into overtime. The first over time left the game unsettled, after some great 4 on 4 opportunities the game needed a second OT to settle the score. The Thunder dominated both OT periods and finally snuck away with a big win after a 2 on 1 pass opened up #23 Rory Davidson for a beautiful deek to put the game away.

The Big Kahuna Players of the Game for the visiting Vikings was #14 Ryan Groom and for the Thunder was #9 Matt Benko.
