EDMONTON AB – Your 2019/2020 season opener was a back and forth battle between the Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder and the visiting Portage Voyageurs. The Thunder defeated the Voyageurs with a score of 11-2.
The Thunder started the game with a couple penalties and spent the large part of the opening minutes in the box. Luckily their special teams were on their game having 2 solid scoring chances shorthanded. The Thunder opened up the scoring midway through the first and kept the pressure on, spending much of the first and second in the attacking zone. The Voyageurs broke the shutout opportunity towards the end of the second, and the Thunder fired back with an even strength goal and a shorthanded goal in the dying minutes of the period to end the second with a score of 4-1. The 3rd period got a little chippy as the physicality increased, the Thunder kept their cool and put away a few powerplay goals, as well as a shorthanded.
