Thunder Open SAIT Series WIth a Loss at Home

EDMONTON, AB - Oct 12, 2018

On Friday night the Concordia Thunder hosted the SAIT Trojans in their first matchup of the season. The Thunder were in tough against the offensive Trojans as they took the win on the road 8-4. 

#16 Eric Krienke led the Trojran offense scoring only minutes into the 1st period and would soon be followed by two unanswered goals from #12 Kurtus Rutledge & #26 Owen LeClare. The Thunder were able to rally some offense before heading into the intermission as #28 Charlie Gawlicki netted a goal midway through the first. #19 Chad Hurtibise(CUE) was able to find the back of the net one more time to give the team some energy before the buzzer sounded to end period #1.

The second period saw many scoring chances on both ends of the ice however #16 Eric Krienke struck again as he scored his second of the game. Concordia was able to bounce back with a goal from #3 David Randall to remain in the game as the Trojans led 5-3 heading into the third.

The intensity of the game started to pick up in the third as both teams increased their physical play. Their was a combined 18 minutes of penalties in the period however each team was only able to capitalize on the powerplay once. The Trojans were able to find the back of the net three more times before the horn sounded to end the game in a 8-4 final.

Between the pipes for SAIT was #30 Jordan Cartney who picked up the win by stopping 30 of the 34 shots he faced. 

The players of the game were #16 Eric Krienke (SAIT) who had a 5 point night (3G, 2A), and for the Thunder #28 Charlie Gawlicki (1G). 

The two teams will battle each other once again Saturday night in Calgary. Puck drop is at 7:00PM.
