Season kick off - Thunder take on visiting Vikings

EDMONTON AB – Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder (CUE) played host to the visiting Augustana Vikings to kick off the 2018/19 season. The Vikings walked away with the win with a score of 6-2 and potting one shorthanded goal late in the 3rd.

The Vikings opened up the scoring late in the first, to start the second with a 1-0 lead. Concordia seemed to be in it for most of the game, having chances taken away from them by outstanding goaltending by the Vikings #31 Curtis Skip. It seemed as though, no matter how close Concordia would be to scoring, the Vikings would skate one back and take the momentum right out from the Thunder.

After scoring 4 unanswered goals in the second, the Thunder came out at the 3rd and outshot the Vikings 11-4, and grabbed one goal to cut the lead, but it was too little too late as the Vikings caught the Thunder pinching a little too deep in the offensive zone and was able to score a shorthanded goal putting an end to the possibility of a comeback.

The big Kahuna player of the game was the goaltender for the Vikings #31 Curtis Skip and for the Thunder #31 Phil Dillon who scored both of Concordia's points. CUE and UAA will be playing again tomorrow night with the Vikings hosting the Thunder.
