EDMONTON, AB – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder hosted the Keyano Huskies Friday night in game one of their two game series. The game was a tight back and forth affair, but Keyano managed to take the first three sets to sweep the match 3-0.
The first set saw the Thunder jump out to an early lead before the Huskies stormed back to tie it. This resulted in some back and forth action before Keyano pulled away late and never looked back as they took the set 25-23. The Huskies took this momentum into the next set, as they jumped out to an early lead. The Thunder don't back into it, exchanging points with the Huskies, but the Keyano lead was too great as they took the second set 25-18. The Huskies once again jumped out to an early lead in the third set, but the Thunder managed to scrap their way back into it. As teams exchanged points throughout the set, the Thunder took a lead late. The Huskies, however, clawed their way into trying the set before ultimately taking it 27-25 and taking the match in straight sets.
The Thunder and Huskies meet again tomorrow afternoon for game two of their weekend series. The Thunder will be looking to even the score to come out of the weekend with a split.
