Thunder Ride Big Second Half To Win Over Rustlers

EDMONTON, AB – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder hosted the Lakeland Rustlers on Friday night to open up their two game weekend series. The first half was a tightly contested back and forth affair. After that, however, the Thunder took control and never looked back as they cruised to a 91-69 win.

The first quarter started out with both teams exchanging baskets, as neither could get any defensive traction. The back and forth play continued throughout the quarter as the Thunder took an 18-14 lead at the break. The second quarter was once again back and forth action as both teams exchanged baskets, but the Thunder maintained their lead heading into the half 36-31. The second half, however, was a different story as the Thunder offense took off and their defensive effort stepped up as their lead was extended to double digits. Concordia lead 60-48 after three. In the fourth, the Thunder offence scored 30 points as they once again extended their lead, winning the game by the 91-69 final.

Concordia and Lakeland will meet again tomorrow night as the Rustlers look to even the weekend series.

The Kahunaverse Players of the Game were #21 Kwantez Simmons for the Rustlers and #15 Ronald Bacon Jr for the Thunder.
