Thunder Women's Volleyball Announce 2018-19 Recruits

The Thunder Women's Volleyball program has done some work this offseason to build for future success and is pleased to announce the recruits for the 2018-19 season:

Tanielle Yacey

A leftside player, Tanielle comes from St. Paul High School in St. Paul, AB and currently plays for the Bonnyville Rhinos club team. She will be enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program at the University.

Coach Turner on the addition of Tanielle: “We had Tanielle out to one of our practices and the first thing I noticed with her is how aggressive she is with her attack. She is not afraid to go after the ball and that is a strength that will get better at our level. I have watched her at a couple of the club tournaments and she is the leader of her club team and will be a great addition to our team.”

Taylor Flint

Taylor comes from Grande Prairie and can play either rightside or the middle position. She currently plays for the Central Peace Panthers club team and will be enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology at the University.

Coach Turner on the addition of Taylor: “I met Taylor and her mom when we played in Grande Prairie this past year and the first thing I liked about her is how much she loves the game of volleyball. Her mom was a former player at the University of Calgary and has helped her to develop her skills to get to our level. Having watched her at the club tournaments, Taylor has a great jump and competes hard on the court so she will do well at our level.”

Tia Schram

Tia is attending Fort Saskatchewan High School and currently plays for the SAS Club team. She can either play middle or outside and will be enrolled in the Bachelor of Management program at the University.

Coach Turner on the addition of Tia: “Tia has the ability to be a very dominate player in our league as she learns to play at the next level. She wasn’t on my radar until I watched the first club tournament and I really liked how she competed on the court. After talking with her, I like how she wants to improve each day and I saw that at the last tournament that I watched her. She can play either position so we will put her in the position that will benefit the team and her. We are excited to see her progress throughout the year.”

Janelle Green

Janelle currently attends Jasper Place High School in Edmonton and plays for the NOOKS Club team as a starting middle. She will be enrolled at the University in the Sciences program.

Coach Turner on the addition of Janelle: “Janelle comes from a very well coached high school program at Jasper Place and you can see that in her skills on the court during the club tournaments. I really like how fast she is in the middle and the snap she has with her wrist when hitting the ball. She has a great attitude towards her teammates and is very keen on learning a very tough position but we believe she has the tools to play that position well at our level.”

Mykayla Ebel

Mykayla is a student at Strathcona High School in Edmonton and currently plays outside for the NAVC club team. She will be enrolled in the Education program at Concordia.

Coach Turner on the addition of Mykayla: “Mykayla is playing for one of the top club programs in Alberta and has shown great strides with the team this year. We had her out to one of our practices this year and she is not afraid to go after the ball. She has all of the tools to be an outstanding student-athlete and will challenge her teammates to succeed. We are excited to have her and know she will be someone to look out for as the season progresses.”
