Thunder Women's Basketball Recruiting Class of 2018

After another successful campaign in 2017-18 the Thunder Women's basketball team is looking to add some depth to the program this off season. The Thunder Women's Basketball team is pleased to announce the recruiting class for the 2018-19 season!

 

High School Recruits:

 Olivia Armstrong: PG 5’4 Chestemere Alberta, Chestemere High School

Olivia comes to Concordia from Chestemere Alberta, and was the number reason for the lady Lakers success this year. “Olivia helped Chestemere get back into 4A provincials. Her leadership and tenacious play is something we are used to with the Armstrongs”. Exclaimed Coach Valpreda.

Olivia is a quick and versatile player; she will be looking to make a mark on the women’s basketball program right away. “We are over the moon to have Liv join our program for the upcoming season” Coach Valpreda said, “Liv will bring us the speed we need at the guard position, she has a great basketball IQ and overall is an awesome kid, she comes from a wonderful family and we are very happy to have her.” Olivia will be enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts Program.

 

Madison Murdoch: Wing 6’0 St.Peter The Apostle High School, Spruce Grove Alberta

Madison comes to the women’s basketball team this year from the Spartans at SPA. Madison is a long and athletic wing player; she was the key reason for the women’s basketball team success at SPA, helping them go into provincials as the #1 seed at 3A. Madison was also recognized as a 2018 Alberta Basketball All-Star and took part in the local annual event. “ Madison will bring us the length and athleticism on the defensive end, she can also shoot the ball very well from the perimeter and is a fantastic person to add to our program” says Coach Valpreda. Madison will be enrolled in the Bachelor of Science Program.

 

Amy Van Brabant: Post 6’1 Mornville Community High School

Amy is a 6’1 Forward from Mornville Community High School, Coach Valpreda is very excited to add Amy to the recruiting class, “Amy is an exceptional player, she works hard every quarter and never gives up on plays, rebounds or her team”. Amy has great physical presence under the rim, runs the floor very well and defensively does the things we need to continue our success in the post position.”  Amy had great success in her last year with wolves winning multiple MVP awards at the tournaments she took part in and helping the women’s basketball program at Mornville become one of the top contenders at the 3A level. Amy will be enrolled into the Bachelor of Science program.

 

Raegan Abrey: 5’9 Guard Kate Andrews High School, Coaldale Alberta

Raegan comes to Concordia from Coaldale, Alberta and Kate Andrews High School. Raegan is an outstanding guard who can shoot the ball well, get to the basket off penetration and has toughness on the defensive end of the game. “Raegan did extremely well for us at ID camp, she was that hidden gem. She played very well at 2A provincials for the Pride and was a big reason for their success this year” We are extremely happy with Reagan’s commitment to our program and we are excited to see grow both on the court and in the classroom.” Coach Valpreda said.  Raegan will be enrolled into the Bachelor of Science progam. 

Transfer Players:

Danielle MacLellan- 6’0 Post, Keyano College Fort MacMurry

Danielle will be entering her 4th year at Concordia after spending 3 years with the Keyano Huskies. During her time at Keyano she was named a second team north all-conference player in 2016-17 and averaged 13pts/game and this past season chipped in with 10.7 pts a game and 6 rebounds a game helping Keyano have one of their most successful seasons. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to coach Danielle at Concordia, she has been tough to deal with when competing against her, I’m happy she’s going to be in a Thunder jersey. Now she understands what it takes to be effective in this league and will lead our team in different ways. We expect big things from Danielle during her time here at Concordia.”  Danielle will be enrolled into the Bachelor of Arts Program.
